Another notable Connecticut firm has announced significant layoffs. Wiggin and Dana purged 14 attorneys as of Tuesday, according to a statement released by the New Haven-based firm. Its web site lists 150 lawyers in five offices, including Philadelphia, New York and three Connecticut offices.
"As the current economic crisis deepens, it has become apparent that Wiggin and Dana is not immune to the pressures adversely affecting all businesses, including our clients and other prominent law firms," the statement reads.
Wiggin and Dana also eliminated 14 administrative staff and paralegal positions in January, according to the firm.
Firm officials would not comment on which practice areas or offices were affected. Since mid-December, Wiggin and Dana had been growing certain practice groups, including white-collar defense, insurance and labor and employment litigation. The firm also announced in late January that three attorneys had been made partners.
