Striking A Blow Against UPL

The Connecticut Law Tribune

December 7, 2009

Between 2002 and 2005, the American Family Prepaid Legal Corporation and its affiliate, Heritage Marketing and Insurance Services, targeted senior citizens in Ohio through direct mail ads and magazine advertising designed to convince them that a will or other estate planning was complicated, costly and unnecessary. Those who responded were subjected to an in-home hard sell by a non-attorney, which was designed to convince them that all they needed was a living trust, which would solve all their testamentary issues - and for the low bargain price of $1,995.
