According to Black's Law Dictionary, a kangaroo court is defined a "self-appointed tribunal or mock court in which the principals of law and justice are disregarded, prevented or parodied." The term, which may sound silly to a layperson, is regarded as a nasty insult in the legal profession, causing lawyers and judges to bristle. The term is the legal equivalent of a four-letter word.
