The standard of care pertinent to a medical malpractice claim in Connecticut is defined by Connecticut General Statutes § 52-184(c) as a breach of the prevailing professional standard of care—that level of care, skill and treatment which, in light of all relevant surrounding circumstances, is recognized as acceptable and appropriate by reasonably prudent similar health care providers.

Just last month a Framingham, Mass., drug manufacturer, New England Compounding Center (NECC), unnecessarily infected more than 400 people across the nation because of a meningitis outbreak traced to a contaminated batch of steroids made by the lab. Until recently, not much had changed with respect to the creation, preservation and production of medical records. Medical records have been on paper for centuries, and if a patient's chart is requested, it would be physically maintained in storage for retrieval.
