Trib 25 2010

The Connecticut Law Tribune

The Connecticut Law Tribune's  "Trib 25" survey is a ranking by gross revenue of the leading Connecticut-based law firms. We also print charts showing profits per equity partner and revenue per lawyer.

The Law Tribune's parent company, ALM, presents the annual Am Law 100 and the Am Law 200, which rank national firms in a similar manner.  Two Connecticut firms, Day Pitney and Robinson & Cole, are on the Am Law 200 in 2010.

It is our policy to not disclose in any manner which figures are supplied directly by the law firms and which figures are our best estimates.  The number of attorneys in a firm are counted on a "full-time equivalent" basis. Equity partners are those who receive no more than half their compensation on a fixed-income basis. Non-equity partners are those who receive more than half of their compensation on a fixed basis.

National law firms on the Am Law 100 and Am Law 200 that have a Connecticut office are listed on a chart as well. This methodology, by definition, does not survey, rank or note the significant regional firms which are not based in Connecticut.

Adapting To Adversity With Diversity of Skills

Managing partners at the 25 highest-grossing Connecticut-based law firms were generally upbeat about the 2010 business year, which finished with a strong final quarter. But they're decidedly concerned about the future.

The Staffs Are Smaller, But Results Are Better

When it comes to a practice area that is resilient in the face of an economic downturn, labor and employment law would be near the top of the list.

Just ask Beverly Garafolo, managing partner of the Hartford office of Jackson Lewis. The firm's 15.2 percent jump in revenues last year helped catapult it for the first time to a place on the Am Law 100, a national ranking of firms, based on annual gross revenues, compiled by ALM, the parent company of the Law Tribune.
