Newly Elected Fairfield Bar President Takes Office
Business litigation attorney Andrew Zeitlin, newly elected President of the Fairfield County Bar Association, said his goals are to ensure that the bar association continues to sponsor a wide variety of programs that are beneficial to its members.
He hopes the association is able to do so while remaining financially stable and affordable to lawyers throughout Fairfield County.
Like many organizations, the bar is dealing with rising costs, which are, in part, offset by sponsors, he said. "Sponsorships from companies such as court reporting services, banks, etc. are harder to come by in a down economy. We've been fortunate to have a number of loyal and generous sponsors who have been supporters of the bar association for a long time," Zeitlin said.
Zeitlin said the educational programs and seminars that the FCBA presents are probably the most important benefit the association provides.
"Those programs provide continuing legal education to lawyers throughout Fairfield County, and are especially useful to lawyers who are admitted in New York and other jurisdictions that have continuing legal education requirements," Zeitlin said. "Over the years, I have served as a panelist for several seminars involving issues such as technology in the courtroom and prejudgment remedies. In addition, I have helped organize several other programs and seminars."
Zeitlin, a partner with Shipman & Goodwin LLP, practices in the areas of business litigation and creditors' rights. Since 2010 he has coordinated the firm's pro bono program helping Holocaust survivors applying for pensions from the German government.
He represents clients in state and federal courts and in arbitration proceedings in a variety of matters, including business torts, partnership and corporate governance disputes, and contract and real estate disputes.
"Fortunately, the Fairfield County Bar Association has been a successful organization for a very long time, with very stable leadership. Jeanne Urso has been our Executive Director for over 10 years, and has been ably assisted by Lina Quintero for approximately 10 years, as well," Zeitlin said.
Zeitlin previously served on the Bar Association's Executive Committee, and was Co-Chair of the Civil Litigation Section. He is also a board member of the United Way of Western Connecticut and the Brandeis University Alumni Association.
"I was elected to the board of the Fairfield County Bar Association in 2007, and have been a board member continuously since then. For a number of years, 2005-2012, I co-chaired the Civil Litigation Committee, and prior to that 2002-2004, I co-chaired the Young Lawyers Committee," Zeitlin said.
