Let the consumer decide! If they don‘t like these services, the services will fail. The State of Connecticut does not need to protect consumers on this one. The users are fully empowered and can protect themselves. This is more about protected the entrenched taxi business interests. Don J Jun 04, 2014 Couldn‘t agree more. I have used taxis extensively in my travels. They are routinely slow to arrive, or have long wait times in line (think JFK). The cabs are often old, dirty with uncomfortable seats, bad air conditioning, high prices and bone-jarring rides. Uber has been terrific. A month ago I was waiting on a curb on 6th Ave in Midtown hailing cabs for over 15 mins. Most just flew by. Some stopped and asked where I was going then sped off when I told them where (Brooklyn). I forgot I had Uber on my smartphone and had only used it in California up to that point. I pulled up Uber, and 5 mins later I was in a clean, comfortable, modern SUV with a pleasant, happy driver. Uber is fantastic!!! Krishna Patel Jun 04, 2014 I agree with Lyft that this is clearly the old guard trying to defend their tuft at the expense of the consumer and drivers. I agree with John Darer. I just took Lyft for the first time in Los Angeles - it was fantastic and so much cheaper than normal cabs. There was no need to mess with credit cards or cash. On the public policy side, as compared to when I lived in LA a couple years ago, I find people are much more likely to plan on taking Lyft or Uber when partying now whereas before they would try to drive because cabs are so expensive. Anything that gets people to opt out of driving when they are drinking is something that should be fostered.In addition - my driver to the airport told me how she worked part time and drove for Lyft part time. My friend‘s boyfriend‘s roommate also drove for Lyft. It was great to see how services like Lyft are giving people flexible ways to supplement their income.Bonus - I live in New York and have NEVER had a female taxi driver. Most of the Lyft drivers I met were women. More female representation? Yes please. John Darer Jun 03, 2014 As someone who has used Uber and Hailo to my benefit when traveling in London, Los Angeles, Phoenix , Long Island and CT,I cast a vote for these services. Sometimes you need service in a pinch (e.g. downtown LA to LAX Airport to a catch a flight, got a modern SUV for 6 from Uber in 2, yes 2 minutes!!).Why should you have to wait 30 minutes for a dirty smelly old taxi from a service with no A/C that doesn‘t take credit cards,when you can have a clean new car on the spot, with A/C and that does take cards,and that you can monitor their progress to arrival on your IPAD or smartphone along with a photo of the driver and the license plate? . Why should you have to wait in the rain,when you can be efficient through modern technology. Instead of fighting new technology,embrace it like London taxi drivers with Hailo.
