What of such importance is the need for Legal Education. A basic education in the process of civil and criminal procedure and how the legal process works. Many, even those of means faced with a legal challenge know not their rights to due process and to counsel. In our detention centers here in Connecticut, many have no clue how to assist themselves in their own defense and how to navigate the legal process, including detention issues and fundamental rights.Yes, the poor need every bit of assistance in terms of education and access to legal guidance and representation. Too many of our residents are sadly not aware of even their minimum due process rights, and we must do better at informing them, no matter what the burden.
