Former Wall Street Exec Beats Arson Accusation, Collects $1.5 Million

C. Andrew Riley is a former Wall Street executive who purchased an ornate Victorian home in the Windham County town of Pomfret after his honeymoon 31 years ago. One day in February 2009, a fire broke out in the room where Riley stored family photos and mementos from his career. In addition, his wife had just received a $30,000 bonus check from her employer. That, too, was reduce to ash. In fact, much of the home's interior sustained extensive damage.

    This article is absolutely fraught with errors. As one of the jurors in this case, I would know. Spelling and grammatical errors aside, the factual inaccuracies are as follows.

    1.The $30,000 check was in the room where the fire originated, but it did not burn.
    2.They raised 3 kids together, not 2.
    3.They weren’t heart attacks, according to Riley. They were “coronary events”
    4.Not to put too fine a point on it, the verdict was for $1,504,346.10, to be precise.

    Mr. Nolan, if you‘re going to attempt journalism, for the love of God at least TRY.
