Hinckley, Allen & Snyder Adds 25 Connecticut Attorneys
By DOUGLAS S. MALAN
Hinckley, Allen & Snyder announced Tuesday morning that it will open a Hartford office on Sept. 15 after adding 25 lawyers from New Haven-based Tyler Cooper.
The transitioning lawyers include all of Tyler Cooper’s financial services professionals and business services partners, as well as eight of its commercial litigation and employment law partners. The trusts and estates department also will join Hinckley Allen, which has other offices in Boston, Providence and Concord, N.H.
The new additions include Tyler Cooper’s former managing partner William S. Fish Jr., who practices business law.
Hinckley Allen “embraces our culture of quality and services and provides us with an excellent platform…,” Fish said.
Hinckley Allen managing partner Michael DeFanti added that his firm “will continue to be a full-service business law firm…Our firm is thrilled to add a team of quality and experienced lawyers.”
Hinckley Allen and Tyler Cooper finalized the deal within “a couple of months,” DeFanti said. The firm had been seeking opportunities to enter the Connecticut marketplace for several years.
“I don’t think there’s a significant law firm in Connecticut or central Massachusetts that they haven’t talked to at least once,” said a source with knowledge of the transaction.
Hinckley Allen’s major practice areas include corporate, construction, litigation, real estate and healthcare. DeFanti noted that the addition of the Tyler Cooper lawyers will create new strengths in the areas of financial services and bankruptcy.
With the new lawyers on board, Hinckley Allen now has approximately 150 lawyers in four states, a total that would have placed them among the top five largest law firms in Connecticut based on the annual Tribune 25 rankings. Hinckley Allen’s gross revenue in 2007 was between $65 and $70 million, DeFanti noted, a figure that would’ve placed the firm third in Connecticut behind Day Pitney and Robinson & Cole.
Tyler Cooper reported 61 total attorneys and $22 million in gross revenues in 2007. Their gross revenues have declined for two consecutive years since 2005, when they reported $26.1 million.•
